So recently I’ve been exploring a new philosophy on life called essentialism, thanks to a book I recently read called Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less.
What really intrigued me about the book was that it walks you through how to regain control of our own choices so we can channel our time, energy and effort into making the highest possible contribution toward the goals and activities that matter.
So I started to do some personal inspection in my life to try and figure out what brought me the most happiness and fulfillment in my life both in my business and personal.
And what occurred to me was that family was and has always been a big part of my life, and since I have a new niece that was just born and another one along the way, I wanted see them.
I also made a promise to my sweetheart that I would show her the world and so that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I booked two one-way tickets to Bali, Indonesia this summer…
And I literally sold everything in my downtown ATL apartment, packed our remaining possessions, said our goodbyes to our amazing friends and hit the road towards Phoenix, AZ 1,900 miles away.
Our first stop was in New Orleans where we enjoyed eating
Jambalaya and gumbo while listening to some killer jazz music!
Our next stop was in Austin, Texas eating awesome burgers at JackRabbits.
As I was making the 20+ hour drive, thoughts began to race in my head:
“Am I fricken crazy?”
“Why did I leave all my friends and home behind?”
“What about all my stuff?”
At that exact moment, I was also listening to the audiobook “When I Stop Talking, You’ll Know I’m Dead” by Jerry Weintraub who was an incredibly successful film producer for Oceans 11, 12 & 13 the Karate Kid films and a promoter for Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin, Frank Sinatra, John Denver and many others.
And this quote literally hit me between the eyes…
“As soon as you feel comfortable, that’s when it’s time to start over.” Jerry Weintraub
So that’s exactly what I’m doing…starting all over.
It’s time for a new chapter and a new start in my life…and to focus on that which matters most to me: relationships, health and fitness (back to my lean and healthy self by July), traveling and focusing my efforts for maximum contribution in our financial services industry.
Before I left Atlanta, I was with a group of friends where I asked everyone in the room to share in one single word, their number #1 and intention for 2016…
They came up with some incredibly insightful responses:
Industries all around us are being disrupted…
Airbnb is disrupting the hotel industry…Uber is disrupting the private transportation industry…NetFlix and Amazon prime are disrupting the film distribution industry…Amazon is disrupting the brick-and-mortar retail and department store industry…
Here at Advisor Internet Marketing, we will be leading the charge to disrupt our industry…
And what does this mean?
Well it means that we will be shouting from the rooftops that the “old-school” business-as-usual methods and ideas no longer are necessary to build a thriving practice.
We will be sharing stories of successful advisors that don’t have the fancy offices to meet clients or run around like a madman (or madwoman ;)) hosting live events to drum up new business.
We’ll walk you through proven ways for you to build a business that spans borders that you previously thought were impossible…so you can serve more clients that were previously out of reach.
Folks, this is where the future is headed, it’s a much more efficient model and in my opinion much more rewarding, and we will be leading the charge.
