Should Financial Professionals Use Google+?

Out of the 4 largest social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+), Google+ seems to be the most underused and misunderstood for financial professionals.  I continue to see financial professionals all over LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter, but there seem to be just a small group of “digital advisors” on Google+.  Ironically, Google+ is now much larger in terms of registered users than even most financial advisor’s favorite go-to social media platform, LinkedIn.

So why should Financial Professionals use Google+?

The most obvious reason is just being on board the same behemoth that owns approximately 75% of all Internet search.  I always joke around that Google’s motto should be “Equitable not Equal” because they have always given so much favor to users on their platform.  From advertisers, Google authorship, Google Hangouts showing up in search engine faster, blogs with lots of “+1’s”, etc.  And you can’t blame them right?  They are a company trying to make money and why not reward those who become your partners and advocates.  I would like to think any smart business would employ the exact same business rules.  To summarize, Google is rewarding its own users in their search engine.  Knowing that, you would be crazy not to be on Google+ for that reason alone.

Some other reasons are because you can’t even have a YouTube channel without having a Google+ account.  Not only that, but Google Hangouts and Google Hangouts on Air are all contingent upon you having a Google+ account.  And if you didn’t see Episode 29 of Hangout Madness where I give a HUGE video marketing tip away that uses nothing but you and Google+ to be found on the first page of Google, then make sure to go watch it now.  I tell you precisely how to boost an “About You” video for either yourself, your company, your brand, or all of the above up into the Google searches in a very short amount of time.

Finally, Google+ enables you to create groups called “Communities” where you can create a specific community around any business, brand, cause, etc.  It is all for free and it makes content sharing among like minded people and organizations so much fun and easy.  I highly encourage any and all financial professionals use Google+ in your practice today.  Not only will you most likely see some increases in your overall traffic to your website, you should start noticing your content showing up more in Google searches when you share it  on Google+.
