To Blog or not to Blog…That is the Question.

Blogging for Financial Advisors:

Since starting Advisor Internet Marketing back in January of this year, I can’t tell you how many times I have been asked this question by a financial professional…

“Should I really be blogging, and will it really help me generate new leads?”

My answer…”Nope, you should never blog…because if you do it will just make it harder for the few of us financial professionals who actually are blogging to continue to create massive amounts of free search engine traffic while stealing some of your prospects and clients, all while working from home.”

I can only hope that you picked up on my sarcasm, and I can only hope that you understand that it is incredibly important to be getting your voice and your message out to people via a blog.

Let me give you a few million good reasons to be blogging…

To start, imagine that today is actually 25 years ago, and you are talking with a visionary that tells you all about an upcoming new platform that will:

  • Enable you to nationally publish anything you can think up about yourself, about your company, about your services, about what makes you unique, and how you can help your clients
  • And you can even sell yourself and advertise in any way, shape, or form, all with a few clicks of a mouse
  • Not to mention, you can use this platform to capture qualified leads on autopilot and even have your platform send them automated messages, even if you are sleeping

Even better, anything you publish can potentially be seen by millions of your potential clients, and there will even be a global search engine that will help your ideal clients find you and your content.

To put a cherry on top of this already unbelievable marketing system, there will even be buttons where anyone who finds your material will be able to SHARE it with all of their friends for FREE.

But something like this must cost a FORTUNE?

On the subject of cost, this entire operation will cost you anywhere from $5-$25 per month simply to host your content.

Now can you imagine what would be going on in your head if you had this conversation 25 years ago?

You would have thought you were dreaming, or that you won the lottery…

Well this exact same marketing opportunity that I just explained EXISTS today!

Wake up and smell the opportunity that is right in front of you.

Moreover, the reason that I said let me give you a few million good reasons is because I know of 3 financial professionals who have made MILLIONS in commissions by doing nothing but blog marketing.

They don’t do seminars, they don’t have a radio show, and they don’t do direct mail (not that there is anything wrong with these platforms as they are all proven to work).

And they certainly spend less marketing money than you, unless you are in the handful of advisors that get 100% of their new clients by referral only (and you are a rare breed as well).

The thing that will shock you the most is that these 3 financial professionals (who each bring in tens of millions of new business each year from consumers who find their blogs), is that they don’t blog that often. In fact, one of them only blogs 2 times per month. The others are more like 1-2 times per week.

Let me end by saying that I have met these 3 financial professionals and they are super impressive as they have managed to do what most of you dream about…working from home while bringing in tens of millions of new business with little to no marketing budget and no overhead.

However, I will also say that not a single one of these financial professionals had ever taken a writing course, or even enjoyed writing for that matter.

But they had the courage to try out blogging, and after some time, they found out that not only did they enjoy it, but it was the most profitable thing that they could ever do for themselves, their business, their family, and their lifestyle.

I will wrap it up with some new stats that just came out in regards to blogging in general:

  • 81% of the online population trusts information and advice that they get from bloggers
  • 61% have made a purchase based on a blogger’s recommendation
  • 63% of consumers are more likely to have been influenced toward a purchase by a blog than a magazine

So get out there and JUST DO IT!

Blogging for financial advisors isn’t that tough. It just takes starting.

All very true. I started blogging in March and didn’t see much result so I stopped in May. Funny thing: in September I started getting leads from it. I’m not making millions like your buddy’s are, but I’m making some. And, I’ll be more consistent going forward. Not sure I want to share this with my FA friends though…

Great story Charlie. Just imagine how many more leads you would have if you had been consistent…

My advice to everyone is to pick one day a week where you take 3 hours of your time do “create content”. It can be a blog, video, etc. But just picking that day/time is Step 1.

Step 2 is putting it into your calendar.

Step 3 is sticking to it baby!

      Thanks for sharing!

      Hey Jose,

      Thanks for the comment!

I would HIGHLY recommend getting your own blog with a private WordPress based theme on a domain that you own.

Google/Blogger is great just like the free version of WordPress is great, but you don’t own the site, thus you really don’t have any control, and you certainly can’t manipulate the way you need to in order to maximize your blog for conversions.

Make sure to register for our free video training in this blog to learn more about this.

      All the best!
